I am on a mission! I often wonder why I do these things to myself. I already know how the World Cup takes over my life. For a month, my world is going to revolve the cup; around ten men running around after a ball, while one man stands around waiting for the ball to come to him. Actually, thinking about it, it is rather twenty men running around after a ball, while two wait. And yet, knowing full well how I will be scheduling social appearances, gym session and all other activities very carefully around who is playing on which day at which time, I have decided to embark on a mission which promises to consume every last free minute of my waking hours.
I blame someone else for this. Never mind that they were just asking for suggestions to help them along on their mission, perfectly innocent, I assume. All I heard in my head was in less than two seconds after I heard about their plan was: “challenge accepted!”
So this is it: 32 dishes from the 32 countries in the World Cup over 32 days, so one for each day the tournament is on. I am so excited about this! I was having a weird week, and was starting down some kind of slump. As soon as this seed was planted in my head, I was on a high. I am admittedly also quite stressed by the challenge. I know, the absurdity of being stressed by a self-imposed and completely inconsequential challenge does not escape me. It will not be easy. It is a very time consuming challenge. Having to research dishes to pick one, recipes to find one that is good, and then to find the ingredients! Even if they are ingredients which are easily available, I see myself having to head to the supermarket almost every day, unless I somehow manage to plan ahead and prepare the next day's dish in advance.
Some countries are going to require much more research than others, some are going to prove to me more challenging than others. But let's see how I go. Looking forward to all the new food I am going to learn about and try!
